October 17th: FACTS participated in Car Caravan to Protest the Growing Injustices of the California Prison System
On October 17, 1998, FACTS participated in various car caravans starting a various places that conlcuded at Corcoran prison (and even later at a park in Corcoran). The caravans sponsored by California Prison Focus were in protest of the growing injustices of the California Prison system. Over 300 people converged at Corcoran prison where there were many spirited speakers voicing their anger over the brutalities that have occurred by the California Department of Corrections. Across the street, watching the demonstration, was the Warden of Corcoran Prison, George Galaza, with uniformed officers - some wearing helmets. Many members of FACTS were in attendance and were represented at the microphone by Geri Silva and Brother Donald Evans.
